Western Downs Regional Council is excited to announce the launch of an innovative community initiative, the 'Play Your Way Western Downs' project.

Designed to celebrate and promote the unique lifestyle, opportunities, and liveability of the region, this dynamic competition and marketing campaign invites locals to share their stories of living, working, and playing in the Western Downs.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Peter Saxelby said the competition is open to residents aged 14 to 25, encouraging the submission of creative entries in various formats including reels, songs, videos, photos, animations, and more lasting 30 to 60 seconds.

"Submissions should showcase the rich diversity and vibrancy of the Western Downs," Cr Saxelby said.

"Beyond the competition, entries may be utilised by the Council to highlight the region's appeal and foster community pride.

"We’re thrilled to launch 'Play Your Way Western Downs' as a platform for our youth to share their creative talents and capture the essence of life in our region.

"This project isn’t just about a competition, it’s about celebrating the pride we all feel for living, working, and playing in the Western Down.

"When our young people share their stories, they do more than just express their creativity they open a window into the vibrant possibilities that life in the Western Downs has to offer.

"The unique perspectives of our region's youth have the power to ignite curiosity, spark inspiration, and encourage others to see the countless opportunities that make our region so special.

"Through their voices, they showcase the Western Downs as a place of boundless potential, where dreams can take root and flourish, and where community and innovation thrive hand in hand.

"Whether it’s a song, a short video, or even a creative animation, we want young people to know that their perspective matters. We encourage them to let their creativity flow and have fun throughout the process."

Cr Saxelby said Council will also partner with local and high-profile professionals to provide mentorship and skillbuilding opportunities as part of the Play Your Way project.

"A series of free workshops will be held during school holidays, equipping entrants with the expertise to create polished and impactful submissions," he said.

"These workshops will cover essential aspects such as filming techniques, sound quality, and format suitability, Media Release 4 April 2025 Page 2 of 2 ensuring entries meet professional standards.
