Western Downs Regional Council is giving residential ratepayers an extra reason to go paperless, with one lucky resident set to win a $500 gift card by opting in to receive their rates, water and gas bills via email.

Council is encouraging ratepayers to make the switch to e-notices, providing a faster, more convenient, and environmentally friendly way to manage payments.

Ratepayers already signed up for email correspondence will also be included in the draw.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Andrew Smith said the initiative makes it easier for residents to manage their payments, while also supporting Council’s sustainability goals.

"Switching to e-notices is an easy and secure way for residents to receive their bills, without waiting for the postal service," Mayor Smith said.

"This initiative also helps Council reduce paper waste and postage costs, ensuring we continue delivering great value to our ratepayers.

"Every dollar saved on postage and printing is a dollar that can be reinvested into essential services, infrastructure and community projects that benefit the Western Downs.

"Last quarter Council sent out 3816 e-notices via email, showing that many of our residents are already embracing this convenient and sustainable option.

"We're now aiming to increase the number of emails to 5000, which will help reduce costs and paper waste even further.”

To enter the draw, ratepayers need to be registered to receive e-notices by 24 April 2025.

The winner will receive a $500 pre-paid Visa Gift Card and will be drawn and announced within three working days of the closing date via phone or email to arrange collection of the prize.
