Western Downs residents are being urged to consider seeking a traineeship or apprenticeship with Western Downs Regional Council, as the highly successful 'Kickstart your Career' initiative kicks off for the year 2024.
Having successfully employed 109 trainees and apprentices since 2018, this programme demonstrates Council's commitment to growing the regional workforce and equipping workers with valuable skills for the years to come.
Councillor Ian Rasmussen, Council Spokesperson for Finance, Corporate Services, and Business Strategy said the initiative presents a significant chance for residents to become part of the local workforce and obtain a diverse range of hands-on skills and valuable experiences.
"Kickstart your Career is an excellent programme that offers selected applicants the chance to pursue studies while learning invaluable skills and practical expertise, often paving the way for a rewarding career in the region,” Cr Rasmussen said.
"Council acknowledges the importance of offering training and career pathways to keep the future workforce in the region and to continue to grow our strong and diverse economy.
"Council has the ability to offer the region ample career prospects, all due to the agile and responsive business model upon which Council is built.
"Various positions are available, covering a range of possibilities, including business, information digital media and technology, park and open spaces, rural services, civil construction, and water operations, as well as inclusive opportunities for individuals identifying with disabilities.
First year Information Digital Media and Technology Trainee, Joshua Keehn said the 'Kickstart your Career' initiative has provided him with the chance to enter an industry he's always been passionate about, enabling him to enhance his skills within a highly supportive environment.
"Since working with Council, I've received motivation and backing to enhance my knowledge, along with chances to advance my education as I continue to develop my expertise,” Mr Keehn said.
"This has truly been an amazing experience for me. With a genuine interest in information technology, deciding to take the plunge and submitting my application has been a choice I'm absolutely thrilled about, and I have no regrets whatsoever.
