Queensland Ballet partnership to showcase magic of movement

A three-year partnership with Council and Queensland Ballet will see some of the state's finest dancers gracing the region to deliver inclusive community classes.

  As a part of Queensland Ballet's 'Regional Community Tour', teaching artists will visit Dalby, Chinchilla, The Gums and Tara this September to get people moving and inspire creativity through dance.  In addition to free school workshops and a modified program for aged care residents, children aged 17 and under are encouraged to register for tailored classes in Dalby and Chinchilla exploring the foundations of ballet.

While a sense of imagination is a must for participants, no dance experience is required to attend. Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said Queensland Ballet's workshops will delight and engage participants across the Western Downs.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to experience the magic of movement with the expert guidance of Queensland Ballet's experienced teaching artists," she said.

"Dance, including ballet, contributes to a variety of physical, social, and creative benefits for all ages: from fostering confidence and creativity in our petit pointers to maintaining memory and mobility as we age.

"We have such a vibrant and thriving arts community on the Western Downs, and initiatives like this continue to raise the profile of our region while providing meaningful opportunities to our residents; regardless of age, ability or location."

Queensland Ballet's Head of Community Engagement, Genevieve Dunn, says regional touring is an inherent focus of the company.

“We are Queensland’s ballet company, and our annual regional touring initiatives allow us to connect with diverse communities, ensuring those who want to experience and enjoy meaningful arts experiences have the opportunity to do so,” said Ms Dunn.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support of Arts Queensland, host local councils and our generous donors and partners, who continue to offer unwavering support to Queensland Ballet’s regional initiatives."

Dalby Wednesday 7 September Southern Star Academy of Dance, 15 Irvingdale Road $10 per class Petit

Pointers (2 to 5 years old): 3.15pm–4pm

Community Class (6 to 11 years old): 4pm–5pm

Community Class (12 to 17 years old): 5pm–6pm

Chinchilla Thursday 8 September Uniting Church Hall, 31 Middle Street $10 per class

 Junior Class (4 to 8 years old): 3.30pm–4.15pm

Community Class (9 to 13 years old): 4.15pm–5.15pm
