Eighteen enthusiastic individuals have launched into their careers at Western Downs Regional Council as part of Council's popular Kickstart Programme.
The newest group of Kickstarters will be taking up roles throughout the region, including Chinchilla, Dalby, Miles, and Tara, where they will complete their traineeship or apprenticeship with the advantage of gaining real industry experience and a nationally recognised qualification.
Jodie Taylor, CEO of Western Downs Regional Council said that The Kickstart programme has been a crucial contributor to the ongoing strength of the region's economic and social fabric through supporting locals to upskill and grow their careers in the Western Downs.
"Our 2024 cohort of trainees and apprentices have secured positions in fields as diverse as Parks and Open Spaces, Civil Construction, Information Technology, Diesel Fitting, Water Operations, Civil Construction, and Business" Ms Taylor said.
"We all know that 'it's the people that make it' on the Western Downs and by empowering locals with skills and industry experience, we are not only supporting these individuals in building a fulfilling career, but we are also supporting our locals to remain in region.
“This investment extends beyond the individuals involved, shaping the future not only for them but also for the Western Downs as a whole.
"The limitless opportunities a career in Council presents to our people is incredibly exciting and we are thrilled to provide support throughout their journey.”
Digital Media Technology Trainee Craig Finck said when the traineeship presented itself, he saw it as a great stepping stone to get back into the workforce
"I really look forward to seeing how all the different departments work with the organisation, and hopefully securing a full-time position with Council" he said
The Kickstart Programme has a high success rate, with 6 of the 2023 participants obtaining a full-time role at Western Downs Regional Council and others gaining employment within the Western Downs Region.
