Western Downs Regional Council is empowering local community groups to deliver fantastic local events and initiatives, with the latest round of funding grants allocated to eleven local organisations.

The second round of grants under this year's Local Events Program and Community Projects Program will contribute to a range of community-driven initiatives, creating new opportunities for residents to come together and connect.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said Council's grants and funding opportunities were a vital part of building the region's active, vibrant communities.

"Our local community groups play a huge role in building social connection across the Western Downs, and Council is proud to support projects that support our inclusive community and generate local pride," Cr Maguire said.

"Our Community Projects Program is about investing in new and improved community infrastructure and empowering our groups to continue to grow and prosper.

"Our Local Events Program is about supporting local groups to deliver vibrant events to the community and easing the pressure of hosting a fabulous event on the Western Downs."

As part of this year's Program, Council has contributed $2,700 cash and in-kind support to the Hannaford/ The Gums Campdraft Committee.

Hannaford/ The Gums Campdraft Committee Treasurer Sonia Taylor said it was fantastic to receive funding to support their annual event, which brings smaller communities together.

“We just held our 2023 Campdraft and it was an amazing weekend, which also brought together a number of community groups to raise funds,” Mrs Taylor said.

“The Local Events Program funding supports our efforts to host our campdraft which means locals don’t have to travel outside of their community to compete, and also gives us the opportunity to connect with like-minded people.”
