Community invited to have say on future of Chinchilla Aquatic Centre

The Chinchilla community is being encouraged to help shape the future of its local pool facility to ensure it continues to support the needs of our growing region.
Following the adoption of Western Downs Regional Council's Aquatic Facilities Strategy 2023-2038, Council has commenced investigations into the replacement of the Chinchilla Pool, which is approaching end of life.
Council Spokesperson for Strategic Communications and Council Facilities Councillor Megan James said community input was a vital part of the planning process.
"Our local aquatic centres are much-loved community assets and we're excited to start the journey of exploring how we can ensure the Chinchilla Pool continues to serve the needs of the community well into the future," Cr James said.
"Council's Aquatic Facilities Strategy was implemented earlier this year to guide future direction for inclusive and enjoyable facilities for the region, and through this strategy it was identified that the Chinchilla Pool is approaching the end of its useable life and needed to be scheduled for replacement.
"To begin this process, Council is seeking input from the community about the possible location and facility inclusions for the Aquatic Centre and has engaged experienced consultants to engage with residents and propose a potential facility location and possible inclusions for consideration by Council.
“Some minor remediation works will also be completed over the next two years to ensure the pool can remain operational while more details planning around the replacement of the facility are completed.
"It's important we take the time to get this right, and community input is vital in ensuring that the replacement of the Chinchilla Pool is future-focused and aligned with the needs of the local community both now, and well into the future.
"Last week the community was invited to attend 'drop in' sessions at the Pool to discuss their ideas face to face with the consultants. Council has also launched an online survey which will also be used as part of this investigation.
"While it is very early in the process, it's important we hear from the community from the beginning, so to ensure future project plans reflect the needs of all types of pool users."
