With works well underway and significant visible construction taking shape at the 120 Cunningham Street site in Dalby, Council is celebrating the milestone by asking the community to have their say on what the exciting new public space will be called.

Residents have until Sunday 11 December to submit their ideas for a name for the soon-to-be landmark that they believe is representative, inspiring, and meaningful.

Mayor Paul McVeigh said this initiative was a fantastic and unique opportunity for locals to leave their mark on a space they had helped to guide and create.

"Excitement has been growing around Dalby as this new community space takes shape into a space reflecting our community's vision. A big part of this is thanks to the ideas of our locals, so it only makes sense that they play a key part in determining the name of this new space," Mayor McVeigh said.

"The name should be something meaningful to the Dalby community and wider region, which is why it is so important to Council to invite our residents to have their say and submit their ideas for consideration by Council.

"Significant construction milestones have recently been reached, with structural steel for the new projector canopy and Mary's bar now in place, and more visible progress is due to be made over coming weeks.

"Council prides itself on providing attractive, safe and accessible recreational spaces and community facilities. When finished, this space will not only be an exciting and vibrant location for locals to connect, it will also draw tourists and visitors into the town's CBD and the name should also support this."

Councillor Megan James, Council Spokesperson for Strategic Communications and Council Facilities, said she was excited that the community would be participating in the next stage of this project.

"Council has made significant efforts to consult with the community on how they want the space to look and we are delighted to invite the community once again to get involved and help inform what their new public space should be named," Cr James said.

"This is a demonstration of Council's commitment to meaningful communications and community engagement. We encourage the community to get on board and submit their ideas to help us come up with a name that will appeal to locals and visitors and is something the whole region can be proud of."

The survey is now open for residents via Council's website or paper forms from Council Contact Centres and will close on Sunday 11 December, with the successful name to be announced in early 2023.

All submissions will be assessed for acceptability and shortlisted names will be collated for presentation to Council for consideration. Council will decide upon the most suitable name before it is announced to the community later in the project.

The project is being delivered in partnership with the Queensland Government’s Works 4 Queensland Program and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2023.
