For the sixth year running, Chinchilla Botanic Parkland has cemented its reputation as a world-class green space, earning its sixth consecutive Green Flag Award.
As one of only a handful of Green Flag-recognised parks in Australia, the award recognises the much-loved Chinchilla parkland on the international stage for setting the benchmark standard for management of its outdoor space.
Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Andrew Smith said the community is very proud of the parkland and what it brings to region, so to be recognised six years running is an exceptional achievement for all involved.
"To continue to receive such widespread recognition for six consecutive years is really a testament to the wonderful work of our parks and recreation team, who manage 130 parks across our region,” Cr Smith said.
“I truly believe this parkland showcases everything the community loves about the natural beauty of our region.
"Chinchilla Botanic Parkland is the heart of our community. It is a great way for locals and tourists alike to connect with nature and be reminded of the diverse flora and fauna we have in the region.
"Harmoniously tying in the natural surroundings with a variety of themed sections such as our state-of-the-art water play area, megafauna discovery centre, outdoor amphitheatre and parkour equipment, really speaks to the incredible effort Council staff and the community have put into this space.
“Our region’s parks are among the most loved and most utilised assets in our community, and we are committed to creating parks and open spaces suited to a diverse array of activities to connect our communities.”
Western Downs Regional Council’s Parks and Recreation Manager Talia Parsons said the Chinchilla Botanic Parkland’s continued Green Flag Award success was further evidence of the hard work and dedication of the Council's Parks and Recreation team.
"To win this award is not an easy feat and involves a rigorous judging process,” Mrs Parsons said.
“Each year a panel of judges assesses these outdoor spaces looking at strict criteria including its commitment to biodiversity and heritage, ensuring it's a welcoming, healthy, safe, and secure space. Whilst also being praised for its excellent maintenance, environmental management practices, and strong community involvement. The team are proud to provide such a wonderful asset to our community and visitors alike”
