Recently completed major projects and initiatives in the Western Downs.

Dalby: Mary's Place, 120 Cunningham Street

Council has delivered a brand-new public space at 120 Cunningham Street (formerly Mary's Commercial Hotel site), creating a vibrant, exciting, and energised town centre.

Chinchilla: Cultural Precinct

Revitalisation project for the Chinchilla Cultural Precinct and the facilities housed within it, including the Chinchilla Library, Chinchilla Cinema, the Auditorium & Wattle Room, and Lapunyah Art Gallery.

Bunya Mountains: Russell Park Trails

Western Downs Regional Council is delivering new mountain bike trails at the Bunya Mountains' Russell Park, creating an exciting new recreational opportunity for the region and its visitors.

Tara: Pool Replacement Project

Western Downs Regional Council has delivered a revitalisation of the Tara Pool which has provided a vibrant new aquatic facility for the area.

Chinchilla: Chinchilla Weir

Chinchilla Weir is a longstanding recreational spot, featuring camping areas, camp kitchen, fire pits, shelters, BBQs and more.

Condamine: Caliguel Lagoon

Approximately 7km south of Condamine is the attractive Caliguel Lagoon, a lagoon that presents a fine stretch of water and is a favourite location for locals and visitors to enjoy waterskiing, boating, swimming, fishing, and bird watching.

Dalby: Lake Broadwater

Lake Broadwater is a popular recreational spot located 30km southwest of Dalby. It's long been a much-loved place to visit for a picnic or camping, and is home to impressive birdlife and flora. When water levels permit, it is the perfect spot for water recreation and swimming, and its peaceful, shady setting, walking tracks and picnic areas make it the perfect spot to get back to nature.

Miles: CBD Streetscape Revitalisation

The revitalisation project has transformed the Miles CBD into a vibrant, welcoming space, activating the streetscape and encouraging people to slow down, stop, visit and stay longer.

Miles: Visitor Centre and Museum Entrance

The Miles Visitor Information Centre and Historical Village Museum is a key tourist hub in the region and this upgrade has transformed the front entrance and landscaping into a vibrant landmark facility for the region.

Tara: Tara Lagoon Parklands

Tara Lagoon is part of Undulla Creek and host to a serene camping ground with great facilities and powered sites. A pathway along the water’s edge provides a tranquil walking or cycling track and ample opportunity to enjoy the impressive native parrots and birdlife that collect in the eucalypts.
