Words Out West: Western Downs Readers & Writers Fest takes a novel approach to storytelling, with a host of events for all ages and interests.
The festival kicks off with School Days on 4–5 March in Dalby and Chinchilla, where students will be inspired by engaging sessions led by acclaimed authors and storytellers.
Join us for the Festival Days on 15–16 March at the Chinchilla Cultural Precinct. Be captivated by the best of local and national storytelling talent, including Christian White, Holly Ringland, Li Cunxin, and Hayley Scrivenor alongside other acclaimed authors and creators. The program features keynote presentations and panels spanning popular and emerging genres.
The 2025 festival also introduces the Bookish Market, showcasing local talent, unique creations, and small businesses, making it a true celebration of creativity, community, and connection.
After Saturday’s sessions, unwind with Books & Bubbles, a sparkling evening of champagne, mingling, and inspiration with Motherland's Stephanie Trethewey.
Get ready for a taste of country hospitality at Schooners & Stories, an Evening with the Voice of Rugby - Gordon Bray, hosted at the Windsor Hotel, Dalby, on 8 March.
For aspiring authors, the festival concludes with the Writers Retreat on 22 March at Jubri’s Hideaway, Dalby. This exclusive, day-long creative writing masterclass offers an immersive experience designed to refine your storytelling craft in a tranquil setting.
Attendees now have the option to purchase individual tickets or discounted full-day passes, providing tailored access and flexibility for festival goers of all interests and budgets.
