Western Downs Regional Council is developing a Strategy regarding utilisation and commercialisation of public art and sculptures.

The Western Downs is home to a vibrant arts community and unique public artworks and sculptures that tell the story of who we are. We are a community proud of where we live, and to be able to showcase those public artworks and sculptures that make us who we are is important in connecting our region with others.

The purpose of this strategy is to identify marketing opportunities around the region's existing public art and sculptures by:

  • Improving and updating the existing Sculpture Trail for tourism.
  • Identifying and highlighting economic development opportunities and tourism experiences for local artists, entrepreneurs, and businesspeople to attract tourists to the Western Downs.
  • Developing a five-year Strategy and deliverable Action Plan to commercialise opportunities around Public Art for Council adoption.
  • Ensuring that the Strategy is developed through meaningful communications & community engagement, in line with Council's Corporate Plan.

How to get involved

Council is conducting stakeholder engagement to inform the strategy, with a series of sessions to take place from 17- 20 April 2023.
