Building Searches

Building searches are a paid request to Council for information about the building approvals issued for a property and if final building inspections have been undertaken.

Council provides two types of building searches which are available on request:
  • Building Records Search -  Building Records Searches provides you with information on Council's records of the Building Approval/s on the property and if a final inspection has been completed for each Building Approval.

  • Building Compliance Search - Building Compliance Search provides you with information on Council's records of the Building Approval/s on the property and if a final inspection has been completed for each Building Approval. Additionally, it also provides an onsite inspection of the premises by Council's Building Certifier who will identify any buildings which may not have a building approval on the property.

Please note that building searches do not provide you with copies of building approval and or final inspections certificates. A copy of a building approval for a property can be obtained by applying for a Planning and Development Certificate (i.e. either Standard or a Full Planning Certificate).

What Are the Timeframes for Building Searches?

The timeframe for a building search to be completed by Council is generally 10 business days from lodgment and payment.

Note: A business day does not include a public holiday or weekend.

How Do I Request A Building Search?

To apply to Council for a Building Search, please complete a Property Request Form and pay the relevant fee specified on the property Request Form for the type of Building Search you seek.

The fee applicable for a request for a Building Search can be found within Council's Current Fees and Charges Register.

The applicable fee is payable prior to Council Officers commencing the Building Search.

Payment can be made by credit card (Visa or Mastercard), cheque or cash.

Where multiple properties are listed on the Property Search Form, you may need to pay a fee for each separate parcel of land, as these searches may be treated as separate requests.

Please submit your request to Council, by sending the request electronically to info@wdrc.qld.gov.au
